My friends and I are planning a trip we narrowed it down to Norwegian or Carnival, which one should we pick? Anyone been on both before?

Norwegian is clearly the better line. Been on both, and some ships are different than others, but I have also heard other travelers state a clear preference for Norwegian.

Lets deal with your question, even though my wife and I have been with a number of cruise lines. Carnival was great fun, but Norwegian was the better line.

I've been to both and honestly I really liked norwegian better. Their staff was really nice, the hosts were funny, food was great, and room was pretty good too. Carnival was okay but I would definitely chose norwegian Have fun on your trip!

while I will never sail Carnival again, NCL tends to nickel and dime you for things that other lines include in the base fare( room service for instance, on NCL is $8 per order no matter when you order. other lines ONLY charge you between midnight and 5 am and at half the cost)
neither lineI will ever sail. I vastly prefer Royal or Celebrity.

I have been on both and prefer Carnival. I think their food is better.
