Starting my sprinkler system!?

Question

First off , I apologize for my lack of terminology, I m not an irrigation guru. So I m trying to start back up my sprinkler system. I ve closed the little drain plug where the irrigation water line is, I ve opened both of the vents outside and closed the air vent lines and I closed the valve that s in the ground.

My concern is. Where the water comes from the house and makes the 90* turn upward, there s a little threaded nipple. Is something supposed to be covering it? Because every time I turn the water on, water just shoots out of it. Any help would be amazing! Thank you. And I hope I ve sufficiently described my problem.

I would just put a pipe cap on it and turn on the system.

Like oil field trash says, just cap it. It may be where they hook up the compressor to blow it out in the winter if you live in a cold climate. Another thing you can do is put a spigot on the pipe if you want, but you'll only be able to use it when the irrigation system is charged up.
