Should I act more strict towards my niece and nephews?

I feel I let the kids get away with using too much electronics and toys. I don't think it's such a bad thing, kids will be kids and kids will have fun doing things they enjoy and they seem to like me for that. However, in contrast, my sister and her husband are a lot more strict towards them. Not letting them use the internet, not letting them hang out with their friends either on social media or in person. While I do think they are harsh on them, I do respect their stern behavior. It's something I personally can't do and feel I need to work on more, but I don't want to act completley like my sister and her husband. So is there a good balance between freedom and control?

As an Aunt or Uncle it's not your place to decide how these children should or shouldn't be raised. Ask they're parents what they would like you to do regarding allowing them to use technology and how they would like you to discipline them should they misbehave and follow that, stay within those guidelines

Discuss this with your sister. If you are regularly watching your niece an nephews, you need to apply the standards and rules set by the kids' parents. You are not the parent and you don't get to decide what is right or wrong -- only whether or not you are willing to babysit and apply the rules.

Your sister is on the right tract. And the kids only like you because they get what they want.
A lot of parents are going down on TV time, some not at all. I´ve watched my friends who didn´t allow TV but taught the children to read at a young age so they could entertain themselves that way. The kids are college age now - they are normal happy young adults one in Medical School, the other in physics graduate school. If I had to do it over again - I would follow this but you have to have a husband or partner that supports you.

Don´t go against your sister´s child raising techniques. She´s right.
