i am confused why I got turned down for this job?

So I am 23 years old, I have been working since i was 17, I was 4 Years of retail experience, from inventory to sales, and two years of Management experience. I was a department manager at one store and had a team of 5-10 employees, and now i am the Assistant Manager at a store of 15-20 employees.

I interviewed with the owner of a small business in town, who just started in November, and she needed a Customer Service Manager to help her out, i interviewed with her, and in my opinion the interview was pretty unprofessional, I mean her friend was sitting there doing her own thing while she interviewed me in the lobby, and i asked her a question like what her sales or revenue was, and she flat out told me she didn't know how to answer that.

Anyways a day later I got an email saying she decided to hire someone with less experience??? I have never heard of that one before, I mean is that really a valid reason in your opinion.

She said less experience, what she meant was someone cheaper.

she's telling you you are over qualified for the job she has for you, she probably felt she could not pay what someone with your expertise would ask
she obviously is so new to this she doesn't see that your experience would probably lead to more success than paying less money to someone with less experience and ultlimately succeeding to a much lesser degree
it's her loss as well as yours

They are probably hiring a friend. Sometimes people will hire a friend over someone with better experience. You would not have been happy there as they do not sound very professional.

"I want someone with less experience" is actually recruiter speak for "I want someone cheaper than you".

It sounds like she doesn't really know what she's doing - I mean as the owner of the business if she doesn't know the sales or revenue that's a bad sign. Sounds like it wouldn't have been a good opportunity anyway.
