Has been a longer time than usual that my cat is missing. I usually let my cat out when he wants but he comes back when I call him or comes back after several hours! But it has been a whole day and one night and he is not yet back. I am worrying and want to cry! He is a very friendly cat. It is also around Halloween time and I read around halloween a lot of cats go missing due to people kidnapping or killing! I do not know what to do my heart is breaking! I asked the neighbors and they said they would be on the lookout! What can I do? Why do you think he is missing?

Is he neutered? Unneutered males will travel far looking for a mate, crossing roads and fighting with other males. If/when he comes back get him neutered and microchipped.
But each and every time we let our cats outdoors, we have to be prepared that it may be the last time you see him alive. Have you called the local shelters to see if a cat matching his description was brought in? Shelters only hold cats for three days (usually) after which time they are offered for adoption or euthanized. You need to call today. Have you looked under shrubs and on the sides of the road for his body? A free roaming cat can get hit by a car, mauled by a dog, picked up by some sort of sick person (a friendly one is especially vulnerable), eaten by a coyote, poisoned, or taken to animal control by someone who does not want your cat crapping in their flowerbeds. Start calling the shelters and looking for his body. He doesn't need to be outside, not free roaming. Hopefully he will come back - but he has been gone a long time based on his routine.
If the cat isn't spayed (can mate), he's probably searching for a mate because it's mating season right now.
He may have followed his curiosity and went a little far, don't worry though; cats have an amazing ability in knowing how to get back home even after days and days.
Meanwhile, keep searching for him; it's better for you and him.
