How do you find is someone has a will?

A family friend passed away. He has 2 living brothers that he is not close to at all. We THINK he has a will, and has named either myself or my sister(s) has executor. But, how do we find this out?
We are waiting for the medical examiner to notify us on the official cause of death, and he died at home, unattended.
We're just at a loss on what to do and where to start...or if we just wait to see if we're contacted by someone.

You look for it. Nobody's going to contact you if they don't know where it is either. Someone needs to find it.

Either you KNOW where the will is, or you don't. Until and unless someone files the will in probate court, there is NO WAY to find out if they left a will other than FINDING it yourself.

You 'think' he left a will naming you or your sister as executor. I KNOW that if that were true, he would have told you, unless he was an IDIOT.

Best bet he had a personal lawyer who drafted a Will and has a copy, Now if he had a Will which cut out the brothers and they find that Will I wouldn't bet on them telling you about the Will but take a chance and claim they never found one

Someone should go through his private papers to find if there is a will, in his house is the best place to start, the two brothers should do it together, then find out if he had a lawyer, ask local law firms, every one should make a will, and tell relatives where it is!

Only when a will goes through Probate Court does it become a public record. There is not much you can do to find out if one exists. Search his personal records. Check his records to see if he had a personal attorney.
