data from a 'fitbit' was just used to convict a murderer...I believe that is the third such case this kind of evidence was admitted...
as I recall, Amazon is still fighting in court against a prosecutor's subpoena for Alexa data in a murder investigation....even though they simultaneously claim that Alexa doesn't record any data other than the user's specific instructions...
I have several friends with the latest iPhones....and most have related stories about how they tend to just 'turn on' spontaneously or give search results based on words in a casual conversation...
insurance companies are moving towards giving premium discounts to people who install web-enabled cameras in their homes and cars...
who needs a big, evil state when so many are so willing to welcome 'big brother' into their homes?

It is starting to look that way. I hope we don't become that type of society.
Recently I have been faced with how to work with female colleagues when we need to speak about issues that should NOT be public knowledge. Scares the crap out of me. I would rather be accused of murder than sexual assault.
