As a general description, the 'centrist' is someone who doesn't lose perspective on the reality that our system is dedicated to maintaining Liberty first, only afterwards acknowledging ideological 'sides' which are either being held successfully in check by a social counterpart, or have temporarily escaped from the American melting pot and represent a roving danger to society itself.
So the centrist recognizes the danger of black nationalism, but also recognizes the role of white nationalism in keeping it restrained. They could strongly desire to see both 'upgraded' to something better overall, but they do not lose sight of anything in its current form or live in fantasies as though social elements are somehow irrelevant the moment we disagree with their assertions or social behaviors.
A 'centrist' can see Republicans and Democrats as counterparts also, as long as no 'cheating' is going on, creating imbalances which can lead to dangerous social movements which might require equally dangerous responses.
So you are really asking which Major Political Party in the U.S. is playing this role best, seeking to honor the Melting Pot concept which requires our tranquil consent to a system of 'checks and balances' above tribal loyalties, historical revenge, class warfare, gender warfare, ethnic battles, 'preference' battles and anything else demagogues can conceive as ploys to seize power, undermine institutions, reverse longstanding and stable social policies or precipitously shift economic systems in their favor, regardless of the impact to everyone else.
Ghettos or golf courses? Which would you see expanding out and influencing a neighborhood near you when everything is being held in check and balanced with a stable social counterpart?
I think you already know the answer, so I don't actually need to mention anything about either Party.
The Oracle of Omigod
One party believes the Constitution is an outdated document which should be revised. (After all it is written in that ancient text which few people can read - script.) The other party is more centrist because they believe we have the longest-running democracy in history because of the Constitution and they want to "conserve" it.

The so-called establishment Democrats are the center Right party of the 21st century.
They are basically pro-choice Republicans.

Democratic. Because the GOP has allowed Trump's extremism to move them to the far right. The entire world is to the left of the current Republican party.

The centrists...as you like to call them...are not part of ANY political party. I am an independent pragmatic conservative with certain perspectives on issues that would be considered "liberal". I am certainly NOT a crazy whacko LEFTIST who thinks socialism is the cat's meow. Marxism and all its horrible derivatives only end up getting people KILLED. 125 MILLION in the last 100 years alone.
