If anything, it’s the other way around. Soul Edge came out in 1995 while SSB came out in 1999.

The games are nothing alike. Soulcalibur is more like Bushido Blade minus the 1 hit kill. Soul is a weapon based fighting game with no extra special powers. The weapons can’t shoot fireballs or anything like that. If it’s a sword, it’s a sword.

SSB is more like Street Fighter.
