Oh there were lots of time. But before I list some, having lived in two other nations and traveled world-wide, the US is still the best of them all.
The early Americans, including our founding fathers, were slave owners.
The early Americans committed genocide on the indigenous Native Americans.
Robber barons, rich American capitalists, exploited and cheated American workers to make their fortunes. Child labor was rampant.
Greedy capitalists bought up stock at ten cents on the dollar and then could not pay up come strike date; that started the great depression of 1929.
American soldiers conducted a massacre of innocent Vietnamese citizens at My Lai.
Richard Nixon sacrificed tens of thousands Americans in Vietnam for a war that was by all standards illegal.
Bush Jr. launched an illegal war against Iraq under the trumped up fake intelligence of weapons of mass destruction.
My point...as great as the US is, it's not perfect. Which means you and I must be vigilant and ensure our governments remain transparent so that we can know what they're up to at the city, state, and Federal levels.

Yes America has always been great, relative to the world wide average, but America was losing it over a couple of decades and it took President Trump to significantly reverse that trend and return America to a pathway toward Liberty for All.
