Sons a picky eater, how do I fix this?
My sons been a picky eater for a while, why? My daughters never been a picky eater, but she's 14 and my sons 12, does it have to do with the age, me or my wife, or something totally different?

Could be a lot of things, I think kids just like to do things like that to parents! I know when my son started eating solids, he'd eat whatever I put in front him and I was so pleased that he seemed like he was going to have a healthy palate... ten years old and he eats pretty much only carbs and cheese. I just keep offering foods he likes alongside the veggies and fruits that he doesn't and don't make a huge deal about it because the second I try to force, he shuts down completely. It's just because he's an individual and that is him; just involve him in grocery shopping, gardening, preparing foods, selecting foods, etc and relax.

When my son, was raising his daughters, and he came across this.....he put his foot down to show them, EXACTLY, who the boss was. He set a plate of food in front of them, allowed them to eat as much or as little as they wanted. If the plated still had some food on it, he removed the plate, covered it and placed it in the fridge. Next meal, removed the covered plate of food, heat it up and placed it in front of them again. He continued this until they had completely ate everything on the plate.....he never added more food either. Once they learned to eat everything....then he changed the rules; he demanded they eat veggies first, protein and then starches. Children are always trying to get away with stuff and a parent just has to remind them 'who the boss is.....NOT them'.

I had the opposite problem. My sons liked everything. They loved asparagus, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, shrimp, salmon, peas....everything we ate. Once they began asking for shrimp and salmon, we decided to tell them that we hated Lobster and it was just a big fat bug that tasted awful (lie, lie, lie...we just did not want to afford it for them!)
Anyway, back to your child....there is a cookbook that was written by John Trivolta's wife, I do believe. She found a way to disguise broccoli in chocolate chip cookies. Her methods of getting vegetables into all sorts of foods is amazing. Look it up. Kids gobble up foods they "hate" because they do not even realize they are eating them.
I think kids just have a like or dislike for foods that have nothing to do with anything other than their own personal tastes.
I have a son who liked mayonnaise until he read the ingredient panel. He refused to eat it again. Here he is, 31 years old and is still a bit skeptical about eating mayonnaise. But, he eats everything else. Everything.

Fix the food in such a way that he will like it. Put Cheese on it. Or catsup. Or cinnamon, sour cream, whip cream, butter....whatever it takes.

Introduce him to different foods.
