i moved in with my aunt last year. i'm going to be turning 17 pretty soon, and i've always maintained a/b honor roll in school. i've never gotten into big trouble in my life, but for some reason she's disabling the wifi and putting it in "bedtime mode" at 11pm. now if this was a school night i would understand, but the has just started this 2 days ago and it's looking like my school will be shut down for the rest of the academic year due to coronavirus. what's the point of shutting it off when i have no school and no online work?? when school was in session i was always in bed before 10:30. but we're on a break here so i don't understand, and for some reason she will not reason with me at all! does she not understand that some teenagers get distracted and stay up to wee hours of the night like seriously it's a teenager thing.
Who's paying for that wifi, pal? I'm thinking it's NOT YOU. Therefore, you don't get to decide when and how it gets used. Your aunt was kind enough to take you in. DON'T ABUSE your privilege, or you will get shown the road- as in thrown out- in a hurry. You need to respect your aunt and help her as much as you can, and you need to LOSE the 'TUDE. It doesn't matter if your school is cancelled for the rest of the year- that's not the point. This is HER HOUSE, and you're trying play games with HER computer. She has every RIGHT to put a stop to you doing things that cost her money.
And you DON'T need to stay up until the small hours of the morning, even if you are on a break from school. At your age, you need to be sleeping at LEAST 9 to 10 hours every NIGHT. That's impossible if you're not in bed until 2AM or later.
When you turn 18 in a couple years, you'll be able to get your own place and make your own decisions. Until then, you need to respect your aunt and be grateful that she was willing to let you live with her.
I think it is absolutely right. One, you're in her household. Two, there are many scientific studies showing that EMFs including radiation from WiFi routers and modems are harmful to human health and turning them off whenever not in use can help reduce exposure. You've got tons of free time now, do something productive with it instead of scrolling on Tik Tok or YouTube or Instagram all night. Read a book. Or just go to bed.
Yes. It is right to keep a normal schedule, and try to do as many things as you can normally during these times. You also need your sleep to maintain your health. So sleep normally, get up, and do something, anything, productive during the day.
