The Chinese have banned the hunting and sale of exotic wild animals for consumption as delicacies and they look set to reclassify dogs as pets rather than livestock. The "wet markets" are more normally the regular source of fruit and veg, fresh meat and seafood for many Chinese just as farmers' markets are for many Europeans except that animals aren't killed and butchered on site in Europe.

I don't think it is workable. But buying meat at the market or shops is still allowed and I don't see how you could ban that.
