Should americans do as Pete Hegseth suggested and go outside and intentionally get coronavirus for "herd immunity" ? ?

or should he just do it himself and see how that works out?

You'd have to kill almost 16 million Americans to get herd immunity. This is the math.
CDC numbers on COVID-19: 73,297 dead, 1,219,066 cases. (6% fatal)
US population: 330,000,000
Herd immunity: 80% immune (assuming immunity after the first time you get it), requiring 264 million cases.
Six percent of 264 million = 15.84 million.

If you do, do that in the middle of summer when it’s humid and hot. It’ll prob cut it really short. The first time you get it will be a shock for your body for some I think I got it for the first time in the middle of the winter and it was horrible. Later your body learns to fight it off faster when it remembers the virus.
