That may be YOUR reason, it's not what the festival is for. Fat Tuesday is about eating "rich" before the fasting of the Lenten season. Many people enjoy the parades and decor related to the modern season celebrations, as those are annual things (drinking may occur any time of year).

And it's been proven that drunk people are incapable of safe social distancing. Americans could learn all about Covid from us Brits, so far over 100,000 Brits have died of Covid. Wear a face mask that covers both nose and mouth, avoid everyone, wash your hands and only drink alcohol with the people you share a house with.
