Do you think Trump really attempted to overthrow the government when the capital was attacked?
There are members of congress who are on TV saying he did this. To me it looks like a scene from a movie. What kind of drugs were those guys who ran amok in the Capital on ?
We will never know for sure because he told them to go on to the Capital but it was from a rally so you might assume he meant to hold a protest rally not do what they did and no one knows for sure what was going on in his mind.
Ehhh, yes and no. I'm always torn about how much credit/blame Trump deserves for his actions good or bad because the man is very clearly a moron. That's pretty obvious. He can barely keep a single thought in his head, much less multiple.
His speech prior to the Jan 6 seige were reckless. He used fighting language alot. Guiliani even suggested 'trail by combat' between Biden and Trump. Trump Jr used alot of incendiary language.
But the point the Trump team should be making, is that these were all metaphors. Politicians use 'fight' language all the time. Trump's words and his election lies have been reckless. Trump never seems to understand the power of his words, which is why he puts so little effort into choosing them wisely. Instead he blurts out the first thing that pops into his head with no filter. And people love him for that.
The problem with it is that words have power, especially when you're a poltical leader. I think Trump IS responsible for that seige...though I doubt it was his intent. More troubling is how Trump's response was his usual mixed response that allows people to hear what they want to hear. He both encouraged the seige and discouraged it. His administration resisted sending adequate reinforcements. But that's standard Trump. It's no different than the rest of his time in office. I think he deserves blame on a recklessness level, not an intent level.
To your last question, the riots were NOT about drugs. They were incited DELIBERATELY by the Proud Boys. The Proud Boys actually met in advance and planned to incite and push this whole thing. There's video of it on youtube. Wall Street Journal has a collection of videos on their youtube channel from the Proud Boys' own social media posts showing them inciting and escalating in multiple locations.
