Why do gangs or criminals get tattoos of the Virgin Mary or Jesus when they don't believe in them?

Curious if you are a criminal or a killer why these specific tattoos?

Christians (Catholics, Methodists, Protestants and Baptists included)... often feel like we're above the law. But we DO believe in Gods laws.

So when one gets religious tattoos even though we're forbidden to be tatted at all... its to remind the individual who they are. Or its in memory of someones passing.

The bible says "thou shalt not get tattoos for my sake", so gangbangers may think it is b@dass to go against that.
