What did you learn as a child about people who are differently abled? ?

I grew up in a small town and I know it's going to sound bad, but I was scared of the kids who were abnormal/different. Nobody taught us why they looked or acted different. All I knew was that it is important to have good manners and behave properly. There were a few kids who acted out, were violent, wet themselves, couldn't read or write, couldn't socialize like the normal kids. My little brain rationalized that there was something wrong with them, they didn't follow proper rules and behaved badly. There was something off about them that didn't feel comfortable to be around. I didn't understand. This was in the 2000's before schools taught kids about disabilities
