I was wondering if it would be better to boil tap water instead of buying purified water. Obviously, it would be cheaper to boil it, but the problem is I'm not so sure if it safe to drink boiled tap water. Which is better?

Unless you live in Flint Michigan or have well water that hasn't been tested in a very long time it is safe in most of the USA to drink tap water. Boiling it kills pathogens only, filters can remove unwanted chemicals and heavy metals.

Filter then boil is safest way to get clean water. Get your water tested if you think it has harmful solute in it.
I even heard people make plant roots to absorb harmful chemicals before using it.
