Mac means Macintosh, the Apple computer. MAC means Media Access Control. The MAC address is more or less the hardware address of your computer on a local area network (more explanation at the link below). You normally don't have to worry about it, since the hardware and operating system takes care of it for you.

Mac, comes from Machintosh is another type of Computer. The Operating System and the Hardwares are different from others. They don't use not even AMD or Intel Processers, insted they have their own.
Mac comes from Unix, like linux and all other branches. But it's little modified. It's the second OS most used after let's say Windows or i386 which uses Penitum or AMD processors. There are few hardware that work on both.
Programs written for Windows or Linux don't work on MAC. But there are many products and games for it.
many Graphic Designers, video games makers, film animators, work on Apple Mac cuz it's better.
