Why does my cat "talk" so much?

Although it may seem amazing, cats have over 100 vocal sounds, while dogs have about 10. Some cats enjoy vocalizing more than others, and if you respond, it reinforces the behavior. Pay attention and you will be able to assign meanings to the various vocalizations. Here is a website that explains some common cat sounds:

I love ambergreeneyezz's answer. I have often wondered about his myself. Some cats talk non-stop and always have to get the last word in if you talk back. Some are next to silent, except for purring times. Cats, like people, have personalities. Enjoy the cat you live with (humans can never own cats) for who it is. Did you ever wonder if the cat is thinking This Human never talks, I gotta do all the talking all the time?

I bet she's grey, huh? Grey cats tend to talk a LOT. Just means that the lines of communication are open, and food should be pouring into the bowl at any moment.

Some cats are very social and want your attention any way they can get it, even if it is talking your ear off. Sort of like some women.

the cat that you belong to has a lot to say, apparantly. my BLACK siamese had a whole lot to say too. if you are a person who has a lot to say, then they might have "learned" it from you. stormi was a VERY vocal cat, who would "cuss you out" if she thought you needed it. she would follow you get up in your face if she thought you were ignoring her, and give you the toung-lashing of your life! she was a huge cat, not one to be trifled with, and would NOT tolerate bieng ignored and blown off. she chose me when i was FIVE years old, and to be honest, i cannot say whether she got her attitude from me, or i got mine from her... she was 17 lbs as a full grown adult. all black, with the attitude and demeanor of a rottweiller, if you crossed her ...do you talk to your cat, or is she trying to get your attention? maybe you are not giving her the respect and attention you should? or maybe she is just having a conversation with you and\or those around...
