The most common cause of leg cramps (besides over-exercising) is inadequate potassium, and sometimes calcium. Start by eating more bananas or taking supplements and if that doesn't help, then see a doctor.

See a doctor and if they are really painful then should see a skin surgeon because sometimes even a leg cramp becomes a major problem. Or the best think is that just get a X-Ray of your leg just to check upon the legbone.

Make sure you are very well hydrated. You can also massage them, use a heating pad, or something like Ben-Gay ointment. I had them all the time growing up, and those things seemed to help.
