    Yes. First, he was an antogonist. He sought to kill all those who claimed to be a Christian. Second, he saw the Lord first hand and was given a strict commission to take the gospel to the gentile nations. He was extremely well learned in the Torah and Tanakh. It was said of Gamaliel that the biggest problem with Saul was getting him enough books to satisfy his desire to learn. How could someone, a Hebrew of Hebrews, intelligent, articulate and devout, make such a radical 180? Yes. I do believe he is more than credible.
