How does same-sex marriages threaten the sanctity of marriage?

I was sadden in Nov 04 when my birth state Ohio voted a state constitutional amendment to prohibit same-sex marriage.

Update:

Oh, and I forgot to mention, marriage has expanded beyond religion. Now other authorities like a mayor, can marry a couple and it's perfectly legal.

The issue with same-sex marriage is in some ways an issue of terms. In secular society, marriage refers to a legal contract between two people. That contract gives each person certain rights and rights and responsibilities towards each other and in most states/companies, is also tied to employment benefits. In Christianity, marriage is a covenant relationship between a man, a woman, and God. When people talk about the sancity of marriage, they are talking about the importance of this bond and that it remain a holy (set apart, different) union. I personally think it would be fairly easy to solve this "problem" by insituting a "civil union" -- a government approved union between two people of whatever gender that instills the legal rights and responsibilties currently under the title of marriage. Then, those of us who value the covanental relationship can go to our house of worship and be married. This preseves the sancity of marriage for the religious and provides legal rights to those that choose not to participate in marriage.

Traditionally, marriage is between a man and a woman. Most kids grow up with a mom and a dad, although they may or may not live together. There are a couple reasons I see that that gay marriage is a threat to the sanctity of marriage. Children growing up will have two moms or two dads, and that would be pretty weird for them, not to mention all the teasing they'd get from other kids. Also, since traditionally, marriage is between a man and a woman, to decide that gay marriage is ok goes against everything this country has ever beleived in. I know times are changing, but does that mean our values have to change? Also, most Christians have read the Bible, and know that God does not condone same-sex love or marriage. So, that is another opposition. I know this isn't real in depth, but I hope it helps!

Marriage is two people deciding to spend the rest of their life together through the times no matter what hardships come and so two people of the same sex making this commitment shouldn't threaten anybody. It is nobody's business and people shouldn't look at it any different.

I think that adultery threatens the sanctity of marriage more than same sex marriage does. They should think of adding that to the constitution before anythng else.

In your own question, there is the answer. Sanctity. Who sanctified marriage? Why did He do it?

Also: Just because somthing is legal does not make it right. Just popular and politically correct (and shallow).

While I'm NOT in favor of same sex marriage, I believe No-Fault divorce has done far more harm to marriage than same sex marriage ever will.

It doesn't. The only things it threatens are bigots.
