Why do people answer questions with guesses?

Other than wanting points, is there any other reason for answering people's medical or legal or similarly important questions with a wild guess or uninformed answer?

Some people are not ethical, do not care, are immature, do not realize the implications. Any way you want to put it - what they are doing is wrong when it comes to answering serious medical, legal, etc. questions.

My "guess" is they want mindless points. I would never answer a medical or legal question if i had not experienced firsthand or investigated the issue first. I have a colon disorder, so if i am asking a question concerning this medical condition, i am expecting a true, factual answer. Not some "wild guess" or thoughtless answer just for 2 points.

Bearing what you said in mind, I would not use this site as a source of information regarding truly serious topics.

To answer your question, I think that earning points is probably about 95% of the reason people do that. I do believe that sometimes people are just trying to be mean. There are a lot of good people online, but there are also a lot heartless a$$holes.

Serious medical or legal questions should be posed to a doctor or a lawyer...not to random people on some website.

98% of the answers on here however are subjective and therefore based on opinions, assumptions, and ideas. You seem to be getting this service confused with Google's similar service.
