Most barnacles are not eaten. The barnacle goose, however, is a bird who was once believed to grow from the gooseneck barnacle (a barnacle). It was therefore declared acceptable to eat by Catholics on Fridays (when Catholics were required to eat no meat but seafood on Fridays year round).

jwhicks727 is trying to sound smart when actually, he/she is straying from the subject of your question, which is obviously not fair to you. You can eat a barnacle. It will not serve as an energy source, however. It will stay inside your stomache for years, eroding slowly.
