Is there any difference between 25sqm and 25m2(metres sq)?

Is one smaller space than the other or do they both mean 5 by 5

They are the same. It may be 5 by 5, but it could be any size such that the product of the length and width is 25, e.g., 10 by 2 1/2.

    No difference.

However, they both do not necessarily "mean a 5 meter by 5 meter" area. Many other shapes can be 25 square meters, also described as 25 m^2 or 25 sqm.
