An Individual Taxpayer Identification Number is a tax processing number, issued by the IRS, for certain resident and non-resident aliens, their spouses, and their dependents. It is a nine digit number beginning with the number nine. It is only available to individuals who are required to have a taxpayer identification number for tax purposes but who do not have, and are not eligible to obtain, an SSN from the Social Security Administration.

There are two ways to obtain the W-7 form needed.

You can download it at http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/fw7.pdf or call 1-800-829-3676 to order a W-7.

    Mail the completed form to:

    IRS – Philadelphia Service Center

    ITIN Unit

    PO Box 447

    Bensalem, PA 19020

First off, you arent supposed to have a SSN to get a ITIN number. An ITIN number is for non-resident aliens that must file taxes in the U.S. To get on fill out a w-7 form and return it (send it) to the IRS.

You can get the form online at: http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/fw7.pdf
