when i walk, i get intense pain in my shins. Are these shinsplints?

Update:

the pain I'm feeling is very sharp, burning sensation. It's not tender to the touch at all - and extends from the ankle to just below the knee.

Update 2:

Please use laymen's term's if possible.

The outmoded term medial shin splints has been replaced by the term medial tibial stress syndrome. Either term is fine, the pain is at the medial aspect of the leg, adjacent to the medial tibia. Tenderness is usually found between 3 and 12 centimeters above the tip of the medial malleolus at the posterio-medial aspect of the tibia. When the tibia is palpated (touched) the tenderness is not directly medial, but just behind the most medial portion of the tibia, in the mass of soft tissue that is there and at the bone itself. Periostitis sometimes occurs in this location. The sore, inflamed structures usually include the medial muscles and tendons here. Most frequently involved is the posterior tibial tendon and muscle, but the flexor digitorum longus and flexor hallucis longus may also be involved.

I would say yes, I have shin splints and I get the same sensations you are having. I can actually feel mine when I fun my hand down the front of my shin and it feels like little lumps. There is no cure for shin splints all that is recommended for them is ice. Also, you might want to add a calcium supplement into you're diet.
