How come some blades on the alternator pulley are wider and others smaller?

The alternator pulley itself is acutally behind the fan blades. The blades, when the pulley is turning, act as well, a fan.

These are the only blades that come to mind with an alternator. There are the fan blades, then the grooves for the belt to lie in (i.e. pulley), and then the alternator itself. The serpentine belt lays in the grooves of the pulley, and the other pullies on the front of the engine.

As to why the blades are different sizes, I'm pretty sure there is an explanation for that, probably due to the direction that the air/wind produced from the fan turning is directed.
