O3 (ozone) what will it do to you?
I have an ozone producing air purifier and I have it set reletively low but it is right close to where i sleep I have no other place to put it so it needs to stay there I was just wondering other than asphixia what can too much exposure to ozone do to you. and can it "add up" over time. like 5 oz of poison x will kill you if taken right away but if you take 1 oz (small dose exposure) it will kill you just that it will take 10 or 20 doses
I hope the question is clear enough. PLEASE ONLY RESPOND IF YOU REALLY KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT. this is MY LIFE after all.

Ozone irritates the respiratory airways, and can cause pulmonary injuries. Symptoms vary according to the concentration in the air and the lapse of exposure; they may include mild accelerated breathing with tracheal or laryngeal irritation and chest tightness on inspiration; and at least in small mammals, chronic bronchitis, bronchiolitis, emphysema, and pneumonitis, as well as higher incidence of some lung tumors. From this it seems clear that even low doses may have long term effects.
On the other hand, there are supporters of "ozone therapy" who claim that it is beneficial. I suggest you read some reliable sources (and sadly, the internet is full of non-reliable ones) and draw your own conclusions. Did the manufacturers of the purifier have anything to say on the subject?

Generally, breathing ozone is a Bad Idea. Ozone is an oxidizer, and in high enough concentration, will attack living cells and tissue within the human body. It damages the bronchioles and alveoli in your lungs, air sacs that are important for gas exchange. Repeated exposure to ozone can inflame lung tissues and cause respiratory infections.
You should only use an ozone generator if you're trying to get rid of odors. Otherwise, buy one of the ionizing air cleaners or a simple air filtration system.
If you must use the ozone "purifier", adjust the level to the point where you can't smell the ozone.

Humans are already making ozone, and it's not a good thing. One of the emissions from automobiles is ozone. While ozone in the stratosphere helps filter out UV-B and UV-C, ozone in the troposphere created by pollution and emissions is simply an irritant that can lead to respiratory problems and other illnesses. The issue of global climate change the Earth is facing right now has more to do with infrared radiation coming from the Sun than it does with ultraviolet radiation. While the ozone layer of Earth's atmosphere was damaged in the past due to CFCs, the issue is being corrected (with a ban on CFCs). The prominent concern now is the continued buildup of Carbon Dioxide (CO2) and other greenhouse gases that are causing temperature increases and other climate changes.

I have a friend who claimed that being exposed to ozone gave him headaches. Ozone is quite reactive since it is an ion. The EPA web site below lists some potential health problems from prolonged exposure to ozone, although I do not know if the amount of ozone you are subjecting yourself to will cause any of these. The main health effects of ozone seem to be lung problems.

ozone is an natural oxidant, it acts as a powerful tissue irritant, specially lung tissue. you could get shortness of breath, chest pain when inhaling deeply, wheezing and coughing; even get more susceptible to pneumonia or other lung deseases... it also depends for how long, how often and the amount(how much O3) of exposure.
