just make sure you know your 4 C's very well (cut, color, clarity and carat) If you know these and then start looking around at different places- you will begin to see the price differences between the lower-end stores and the higher end stores- though the C's might be the same, the high-end store will charge more anyway
as long as you are educated on the Cs, and compare rings from different places, you wont get ripped off

My husband bought mine at a pawn shop and its not because he's cheap people pawn very expensive jewlry and then you can buy it for a cheaper price. Good luck!!
