They were actually published in September...

But the challenge to draw Mohamed was sent in the summer.... Someone wrote a book about the life of Mohamed... He couldn't find anyone to make drawings... Because every body is scared and fearful with their lives since in Europe, in the last 5 to 10 years many people get assassinated or threats if they make any form or level of criticism about islam...

So the Danish Newspaper, which is by the way, the most important in terms of readers, decided to participate and give a hand to get over the fear of making drawings of the prophet for the book... the whole thing then came down to a challenge to make a cartoon... Many of the cartoonist actually called on some Muslim cartoonist to get their point of view and they all supported and said go ahead....Why ? Because there are hundreds and if not thousands of books with drawings of Mohamed that were printed in Islamic countries in the last 12 centuries... There are even Billboards currently in Irak and Iran with the face of Mohamed and an Ayatollah by his side... The Koran does not say anywhere that he should not be drawn... So what is the issue ???

This said,,, there was a Danish Imam that tried to stop the paper from publishing the drawings... LAST SEPTEMBER.... He got booted by the Danish courts a couple of times... then he went traveling all over the Islamic countries .... And by pure coincidence there were 3 extras drawings that were not part of the 12 published... None of the cartoonist made them... THEY were really bad... if you seen what the cartoonist did,,, there is every reason to be confused about the excessive demonstrations around the world and especially those living and educated in the West or outside muslim countries...

So now the issue is about Censorship !! not respect but censorship.

i'm conflicted. On one hand i think of mocking particular religions, or faith greater often than no longer in any variety is bigotry, so i could no longer appreciate or help a newspaper that would desire to print cartoons mocking Islam, yet I even have self belief in freedom of speech and freedom of press, and that i think that if our society feels that this is o.k. to preserve the religious bigotry directed at different religions inclusive of invoice Maher's 'Religiousity', or Parker and Stone's "The e book of Mormon", then people who mock Islam via media and entertainment shops additionally must be defended. i think of this is ironic that Hilary Clinton, who condemned the action picture that sparked the assaults contained in the midsection Easton on the anniversary of 9/11, additionally attended a showing of the broadway play 'The e book of Mormon' final three hundred and sixty 5 days. If that's no longer hypocrisy then what's?

I think that the recent anger is because many European newspapers recently reprinted the cartoons (in late January).

Opionion: While I am a believer in the creator God and am personally offended when people blasepheme Him, I can't believe this violent reaction. People have the rights to their beliefs and shouldn't be blackmailed into reverence by threat of terrorist attacks. If you want people to believe as you do, show them by your lifestyle and the logic of your position and don't beat them over the head.
