Do various Muslim sects disagree about who is a Muslim?

In Christianity, it has become common for the more fundamentalist Christian elements to claim that other Christian sects are not Christian, such as Catholics or Mormons or Christian Scientists or Presbyterians.

Does such a thing occur in Islam? Does a similar phenomenon occur? Do the Wahabis claim that the Shi'ites are not real Muslims? I have had Sunnis tell me that Sufis are not real Muslims.

Update:

armstrong1978, as a Christian I believe that Allah is just another name for God, and I could easily believe that Mohammed is Allah's messenger, or at least one of them.

Does that make me a Muslim? Would Muslims consider me a Muslim?

By accepting Mohammed as God's messenger, you are expected to believe in the teaching of Quran, which he recieved as a messenger and to obey him. Rest is between you and God, whether you followed the way shown by him or not.

Hound9_4: Being a Muslim only requires you to believe in 3 things.

    1) there is no God but One God

    2) Muhammad was his last messanger

    3) There is the day of judgement

If yo you believe in these 3 things, you are considered a muslim.

As for other sects believing that other sects are non muslims, i only know of one and thts the one you mentioned.

The Wahhabis consider the Shia non muslims because they havent understood what the shia believe.

it is not like that... as long as you said: no God but ALLAH and Mohammed is his Massenger" then you just become a muslim...

so some muslims have misconception of thier relgion.. and all these misconception are not that value.. cuz after all, ALL muslims read the same holy book Quaran and all pray in the same Mousque...

and about ppl who are not muslims such as christians and Jew: through history they lived between muslims in thier islamic countries in peace.. and no one was beaten to convert to islam.. if you want a proof just see any muslim country and you will always see a percentage of the native relgions in it is pupilation..... except saudia arabia as it is the birthplace of islam and actully there was no real relegion there...
