Positively. To answer this question for one of my children (years ago), we hiked into the Shawnee National Forest and placed a “voice actuated” tape recorder (wrapped in thin plastic) on the side of a tree. We returned after the spring storm season. Two tree had fallen during the time that had passed. When we played the tape we could hear several instances of rain, thunder and twice heard the sounds of a tree falling, complete with “thump” when it hit the ground.

That depends, if a mime got hit by the tree, would the mime make any noise?

It would make sound waves but there has to be an ear to pick up the sound waves to make it a noise

doesn't it make noise when someone's around it? why wouldn't it make noise if no one was around it? it's still a tree falling. who cares if no one can hear it, it still makes noise.

It depends on the viewpoint of the person, just like the sound of one hand clapping. The buddhist way says no, though.
