did man invent knowledge or discover knowledge?

is knowledge a discovery made by man? did we stumble across something that has always existed? or is knowledge something that we invented to explain nature? as a race, we do have a need to categorize and explain things.

hint- if you think of a specific example, say psychic phenomena or religion, it may make it easier for you to decide.

Update:

kira yammi, i agree it was passed on... but how did it start?

Update 2:

rfm... i think you're closest...

this is a question that tells more about how you view man's role in this world than whether invention or discovery was the reason... keep writing and feel free to add. there's much to think about.

There's a saying "There is no teacher who can teach us anything new . . . then can only help us remember the things we always knew."

which is very true, that's the point of a teacher . . . to share the knowledge gained by previous generations through communication.

I think that the human race has evolved knowledge . . . like everything else in this nature, it grows and changes so along with that knowledge also has grown and changed as more people exsist. New things are learned through curiosity and exploration. Five generations ago people had a compleately different knowledge of pregnancy and birth, along with the surrounding universe and stars.

Our brains are able to figure out patterns and textures, more so than any other species we know of. The ability to consiously alter our bodies and dietary habbits. Like cooking, new things are discovered by trying new things . . . finding out what works and what doesn't. Recording it and passing the knowledge to others to contiue.

So we have both invented and discovered knowledge. As we grow and change so will what we think we know.

So the real question here is was man predisposed to being able to know stuff and just one day discover how or did man come up with knowing and learning all on his own? hmmmm good one patz. Wouldnt man already have the ability to have knowledge in order to be able to invent it? ...and if the ability to know was there would knowledge still be considered an invention? Maybe I have misunderstood the question. I will have to think on it more and get back to you.

Knowledge is discovered by using the knowledge of others. Meaning, we gain some level of knowledge from our peers, then we take that knowledge we have gained to discover new knowledge. This process is done every second of everyday.

Invention is results of human intelligence yet discovery is unleashing something that existed already. Invention is regularly cloth yet discovery is regularly nature. All regulations of physics and chemistry are nature,we did not invent them, what we did grew to become into purely attempt to appreciate them and convey them in some shape(e.g, equations)to make different persons understand.Inshort all regulations are certainly discoveries.

Man did not discover knowlege. Animals have/had knowlege. They communicate, and did so long before there was man. Man, however, took knowledge to a new level, expanding it, and finding different ways to communicate it.

neither. Man made knowledge known through thousands of years. It is different from invention, though.
