hey , since you're a cool smarty girl you probably already no there is no shame in asking for and accepting help from outside resources when your fam can't quite cut it... my family was (i guess you could say) kinda poor too...definitely couldn't afford a therapist on our own, but anyways, everybody is right, express a need at your school and they will likely assign you a caseworker and a therapist (i even had something called a rap worker, rap was some sort of acronym)whatever... i'm just proud of you for being so young and openminded enough to consider therapy!!good luck to you!!! my thoughts and well wishes are with you!
p.s.
some peops will look at your choice as a weakness but as i mentioned earlier, you sound too smart to buy into that crapola...it takes strength to embark on the journey you are about to take, as you will soon find... inner strength that many people spend their whole lives in search of!!

They are expensive. Try starting with your school counselor. If it is more than that person can deal with, then ask them for recommendations to get help.
A psychiatrist (who is a doctor and mainly gives medicine) is probably around $150 a visit.
A psychologist (who talks to you and helps you feel better) is probably between $75 and $100 a visit.
Insurance can maybe help, and maybe medicare.
Call the United Way to see if there are free counseling services.

Well, the way to get a free shrink is to need one. If someone vouches for your need, then you get a referral. Once you get in to see the shrink, if he assesses you to be in need of help, it is usually taken care of by the state.

Actually ALL states have free mental health care, just like having free regular health care. Just go to your local Health Department, see a regular physician, and ask them to refer you to a program. You can also ask your school counselor for help.
