A search engine gives possibilities but who knows which ones are good and which are scams. Between all the garbage and outright lying hype these days, searching on the web or anywhere else for what you need is a real hassle. I'm 56, careful, intelligent, and I still get fooled from time to time. I don't know about you, but I really get tired of having to read so much small print these days to MAYBE find all or some of the hidden agendas.
Getting other people's opinions based on their experience often helps a lot. This is why I like the customer reviews section of Amazon.com so much. When an author gives one impression of what's in a book and what's in the book is really so much different and doesn't live up to the title, the customer reviews will say so, even giving details of what's REALLY in the book and what ISN'T.
I recently asked a computer question on this website and one of the replies gave me the computer term that applied to what I wanted and didn't previously know. This enabled me to research the possibilities further on the net. This guy's reply was a TREMENDOUS help to me.
Doing heavy research with a search engine can really be cumbersome and a hassle, especially if you're using a modem connection. Besides, the human connection, in my opinion, adds a lot to the experience and often you can learn things from others that you never would have found out just through google.
I've come to really like this venue, although I would love to see some improvements. Like being able to ask and receive answers from the original asker when they don't fully explain their question or circumstances. And vice versa.

Maybe they would rather receive information directly from other people who are knowledgeable about the specific topic, rather than themselves having to search through huge numbers of web pages trying to find all the pieces of information relevant to their question and putting them together. Keep in mind that there are also a number of questions (especially those seeking opinions or advice) that can't be answered simply by typing them into Google.

What you get from search engine may be more relevent to yor question. But getting different opinion from different people sometimes could be really intrestnig.

I've oftened wondered the same thing.
As you said being lazy plays a big part in it, but as for me (since I have asked questions on here recently) I ask to get the general consensus from a broad horizon of people.
