In the wild, seahorses eat live shrimp larvae and other small crustaceans. Seahorses have eyes that move independently of each other and this helps them spot food. They suck their food up through their bony snouts, almost as if it were a straw. Because they have no true stomachs, seahorses must eat large quantities for food to compensate for their fast rate of digestion.

I have a Seahorse/Pipefish tank. I feed them Mysis shrimp in very small amounts 3 times per day. I also feed them brine shrimp 1 time per week. (Mysis has more nutritional value for them) They will also pick at Pods off the live rock and glass. They are NOT for the beguinner, Believe me, I have been doing Saltwater for over 20 years and these things are NOT easy. They are NOT strong swimmers so make sure ALL of your pump and filter INTAKES are covered. Water has to be Near Perfact. Slow picky eaters so keep a species only tank (seahorses and pipefish) or they won't be able to compete for food.(slowly starve to death) DO a lot of research before jumping in.

Other than live brine shrimp, you can try frozen mysis shrimp (but have a few hermit crabs as cleaners, the seahorses will let most of it settle to the bottom) and the new frozen "cyclop-eez" works well.

They usually eat tiny crustaceans that swim near them, or rest on the plants in the water.
