Does anyone here use or know about MySpace.com?
My 14yr old daughter has a webpage there(i just recently found out). Because of all the negative press surrounding this website(missing children, murdered and raped girls etc.) I made her cancel her account. She was upset with me of course. I trust my daughter but I don't feel safe knowing she is using a website like this. Do you think Myspace is safe for kids who are only going on to talk to their friends? What has been your experience with this site?

Most of my friends on myspace are my friends in real life. It's safe because there is language and inappropriate content protection and also on pictures (i.e. no nudity). It is also fun for people to make their own profile.
There were murders etc. because they made a friend on myspace, they started talking, and then went to meet and you know the rest. The same thing happens on instant messaging, except on myspace, they have pictures. NOTE: at least 99% of the people on myspace use their real picture, and have many of them.
In conclusion, it is very safe and fun. I suggest you let your daughter back on myspace because it is not harming her.

I am only twelve, I heard about MySpace.com on the news. So I looked at the homepage and closed the window. My parents said it was very easy for someone to tracked down on those kind of websites because it is not secure. I did not think it was safe when I first saw it because I felt really uncomfortable knowing that someone could find me. When I want to join something like that, I ask my parents first. They usually say "no" and I know why. My suggestion is to go on websites like with her, or check it out for yourself. Like I said, I am only twelve, but I have had some kind of experience with chatting with friends, and I suggest e-mail to talk on the internet. I hope this works for you.

I think that the website can be a safe place to go if you daughter uses caution. I suggest that you ask her to hide her profile from anyone but her own personal friends. This will prevent miscreants from stumbling across her page.
