How do I find Lutheran churches that were in Ohio in the early 1800s?

My 4th-great-grandfather was a Lutheran minister in the "western reserves of Ohio" in the early 1800s, and I'm trying to find more information about him. I know his son (my ggg-grandfather) was born in Columbiana Co., but that's all.

Start with the internet and yellow pages and expand on that. Many churches have websites now. Make a list of current churches and visit them or contact them. Many will undoubtedly have old records and if they weren't around in the 1800s may give you names of some that were. Check with the libraries in Columbiana Co. Many have local history sections. You can also check with any Mormon family history libraries around there. Their libraries are often focused on the locale they're in.
