I'm a SAHM of two, and I own cats, dogs, & fish. I do some nursery care from home, and my hobbies are genealogy, reading, writing, & history. I also like to cross-stitch, and I am learning to garden. One day I'll get back to college and get a degree in education, but I may homeschool my own kids before I actually teach.

  • Does anyone have an organic antiperspirant recipe they've tried?

I'm trying to go organic/nontoxic in my home, and that includes my hygiene products. I've found great recipes for shampoo and soaps, but I'm trying to find one for an antiperspirant. Anyone got a good one THAT THEY HAVE TRIED they're willing to share? Don't post links. I'm not looking for sites. I want tried-and-true stuff here.

  • Does anyone have the old Bourbon Street Cafe (Tulsa, OK) recipe for "Swamp Thing?"?

I miss that cocktail! It looked HORRID, but it tasted so good, and I can't find a recipe that's anywhere close!

  • How old is my whisky bottle/box and how little is it actually worth?

My husband was recently given a bottle of Ambassador 25yr Scotch Whisky, 4/5 qt. size. We know it was imported between 1945 and 1950, thanks to tax stamps, but nothing beyond that, so a more exact date would be great if possible. I can send photos. The bottle itself is still sealed with a lead seal from Bloch Brothers (Distillers) Ltd. - the seal reads "Bloch's Whisky" - and the IRS distilled spirits import tax stamp (Series III, which dates it to 1945-) is still intact. There is also a Texas State Tax stamp on it that sold for 25.6 cents (dates it between 1945 and 1950). I know the whisky itself is worth little, because whisky doesn't age after it is bottled, but my question is: is the bottle itself worth anything? We also have the original box that it came in. On the side of the box is a slogan that says "Yes, every drop is 25 years old."

Thank you for any and all help!

  • Is there any way to find out who worked for the Secret Service in 1915?

My husband's great-great-grandfather got married in 1915 in Indiana, but he gave his current residence as Lansing, Michigan, and his occupation as "Secret Service man." This guy had a history of lying and being a general cad (he claimed this 1915 marriage was his first, when he'd left a wife and son back in England in 1914), so I'm trying to confirm or deny this story. I can't find him or his family in the 1920 census, but in 1930, he's living in Ohio with a wife and son working as a salesman in the music industry, whatever that means. Any pointers are appreciated!

  • Can I wash wool slacks in my washer?

My husband just bought a bunch of new work pants (and had them altered) before he looked at the cleaning instructions. The instructions say dry-clean (P with a circle around it), but my washer has a hand-wash cycle. Would the handwash cycle work, or should I use a dry-cleaner? Also, would one of those home dry-cleaning kits work? Thanks for any advice!

  • How do I find Lutheran churches that were in Ohio in the early 1800s?

My 4th-great-grandfather was a Lutheran minister in the "western reserves of Ohio" in the early 1800s, and I'm trying to find more information about him. I know his son (my ggg-grandfather) was born in Columbiana Co., but that's all.
