i don't think it's right to be physically corrective with anyone else's kid

not effective...i would rather get two slaps than spend two hours in detention

  • I think it was probably one of the most effective forms of punishment, when carried out properly. Kids don't remember the hours of boring detention or the behavior that put them there. The couple of times I was sent to detention, I spent the time day dreaming or just goofing off. Kids do remember sharp smacks to the back end though. I can't remember one reason why I was ever sent to detention, but I remember exactly what I did in first grade to get sent to the Principals office for a whackin, and I never did that again. Of course, it was not in front of the whole class, I was given time to think about what I had done before I got whacked and I was given time to cool down and straighten up before being sent back to class. All in all, I would say it was a positive experience.

I mostly think it's not a good thing. But then parents today don't seem to do the disciplining that they did when I was young. There was always a rumor that the principal had a paddle and that was good enough for most of us to stay out of trouble. If I did get into trouble and got a swat from whomever, I went home and got it all over again.

I think that it is a good thing in a way. Because now a days children can get away with anything. When I was in school I got my butt whipped there and then got one when I got home. But having a Physically punishment is not always the right thing to do.

It is very wrong. I remember years ago in the 3rd grade when I recieved 2 swats on the rear. It was humiliating and painful. I would never allow my child to have to suffer that same fate. This is why I'm glad it is illegal.

PRINCIPAL'S PADDLE IS A VERY WRONG THING TO USE. NOW A DAYS IT COULD BE CONSIDERED CHILD ABUSE IN AN EDUCATIONAL ENVIRONMENT. THIS COULD BE CAUSE FOR TERMINATION OF THE STAFF MEMBER/MEMBERS INVOLVED IN THIS TYPE OF PUNISHMENT.

Wrong. I don't think teachers should be discipling children like that. Leave it to the parents to the spanking, or come up with other disciplinary actions.

no, but it sure beats staying an hour after school for detention.
