i have lucid dreams quite often but find it hard to manipulate it.Is there a way to control what i dream?
sometimes when i am dreaming, i realise it is a dream, specially when it is a bad dream. Then, i try to change my dream into something more favourable, for instance, if i am being chased, i try to change the location or reach home or run faster. But, i find it very hard to change and i end up stopping the dream(which has been quite a relief most of the times). However, i would like to know how i can literally change it to the way i want it happening.
i have been having lucid dreams only for the past 2-3 years since i actually got to know about it.This is a technical question and would really appreciate answers from people who really know this stuff.

this is a question of becoming more solid, comfortable, and practiced in what is called by some the dreaming or astral body. there are many exercises and books that deal with the subject. look up lucid dreaming and astral body for more detail but here are some tips:
-when awake, sit with eyes closed and visualise yourself standing in front of you. when this picture is pretty stable, transfer your consciousness to this facsimile and move about in it. you might start by crawling and proceed to flying so to speak. in the so called astral body, the possibilities are limited by your imagination.
-work on any exercises that strengthen the will and concentration, especially visualization.
-before going to sleep, state your will to perform some simple action in your dream. one mentioned in Carlos Casteneda's THE ART OF DREAMING is to give yourself the command to look at your hands in your dream. this will help bring consciousness into your dreams.
-keep a fastidious dream journal in which you write each and every remembered detail of your dreams as soon as you awake. this will help bridge the two worlds.
-remember that the fabric of the dreaming world is very tenuous and related to the element of water. it is very malleable when the will is developed. when the will is not developed or manifest in the dreaming world, you are like water in water. as i said, to practice forming the "dream stuff" you practice visualizing. you can take a walk, and then go home and close your eyes and remember visually every element of that walk. you can also create images out of your imagination, and manipulate them in your inner eye. you will find them difficult to control at first, and then, like a sculptor, you master the medium, and it obeys your command. also remember that the images you create in the dreaming world have some life even when you are done visualizing them. be careful what you create.
another precaution is encountering the entities that populate the astral plane, but have no physical form. becoming proficient at dreaming opens you up to them, and they might try to contact you.
this might seem not to directly answer your question, but it does in the sense that practicing scales, chords and arpeggios helps a pianist improvise at another time. you must understand and exercise the astral body just like you would your physical body. look up books on astral projection and flip thru first to make sure the writer feels like a sane credible writer.
another thing to consider is the message of dreams. you can take a more psychological approach because your dreams are your unconscious mind trying to communicate something to your conscious mind in its own language which is that of pictures and archetypes. if you don't like what its saying that's even more reason to take note. sometimes it will warn you of danger, sometimes, when you just listen it will lead you to some remarkable discoveries - as i'm sure you know. if you haven't already done so, look into carl jung and his work on the collective unconscious and archetypes. also, you may look into dion fortune's books on mind training (they're not about mind training, but the subject is treated)

make sure you follow the external links. the about.com link has texts online.

You might want to try to initiate what is called "consciousness during sleep paralysis." Most people don't know it, but when we are asleep, we are actually temporarily paralysed; this is a defense mechanism our brains are hardwired for, to prevent us from acting out our dreams while we sleep. In fact, "astral travel" is nothing more than consciousness during sleep paralysis.
The best way to experience this is to sleep somewhere you don't normally sleep, such as an easy chair instead of your bed. If you're up to it, you might even try to sleep on the hard, cold floor.

Be a nice little girl and dont try so hard. The dreams are God's way of telling you something in your life. Usually its to guide you away from danger and dangers people.
Just relax and ask for God Almighty's way for you to proceed.
