You tip your hair stylist, but you don't tip your dog groomer, why is that??

I have owned a dog grooming salon for over 8 yrs, and hardly get tipped. Is it because its your dogs fur and not the hair on your head?

Update:

Some stupid people, of course YOU are getting your haircut, and when the dog gets a groom he/she cannot tip, so what about the cheap owners??

Update 2:

You would not think anything about paying $80 to get your hair done, but you aren't willing to pay $45 to get your small dog done. Do you know the work that goes into to grooming a dog, its just not a wash and a trim. Nails, anal glands, hair between the pads, trim of the genetils, ear cleaned and plucked, style, wash dry, style..etc

Update 3:

And yes you do tip the owner of the grooming salon, maybe she is the only that is working there, and also has to pay taxes, overhead, etc. and would like a tip, she might find the tip a good compliment of her work

I've never questioned tipping my dog groomer. Any time someone performs a service for me I believe they deserve a tip. Obviously this is something I could do myself, but it is something I wouldn't want to do. It's a hard job and depending on the dog could potentially put you at risk. There are a lot of costs and a lot of time that goes into each dog. I feel that $50 to get my dog groomed is a bargain. Since the groomer does a nice job, I feel that they deserve a nice tip. I don't see any difference in having my dogs hair cut or my own hair cut, so I don't see why I wouldn't tip.

My dog has allergies, so he has to go to get a bath once a week now. Then once a month he gets a full service grooming. Each and everytime he visits the groomer receives a tip from me, I only feel it is fair.

I'm actually quite surprised to hear that so many people don't tip. I'm sorry to hear that you have to do all that work and not get paid what you deserve.

Tipping is customary if you are pleased with the job the Groomer did and the level of service you received, just like a hair Stylist. You would be sure a tipper had a great experience wouldn't you? And you don't even have to trim your clients' toenails, wash their butt, clean out their ears or shave their privates do you? Ever had one of your clients try to jump out of the tub, wet, and make them catch you? Or shake their head the entire time you are washing their hair? If you find a kind, patient, experienced Groomer they are worth tipping!

Why does almost everyone need tips these days? I'm confused on who I should or shouldn't tip anymore. So I usually tip my barber if they're good and friendly, and when I go out to eat if the service was great. Sometimes, I'll tip others if it's earned.

P.S. You shouldn't call people stupid if you run your own business, and show your face in a picture. (esp. if you're ugly). Your attitude doesn't seem business friendly. No wonder you're getting stiffed. (DOG groomer...good name for you..er...I mean your business.)

My groomer charges $70 to do my dogs. It is actually a team that does the grooming. I always pay $100, so there is enough tip to go around. (Afghan Hound)

Source(s): dog breeder since 1968..... You know, I have to qualify that...My groomer has a doggy self wash/dry, for owners to do it your self for $10......I live in the harbor, and like to take my dogs to the beach. This requires that they be unsalted/sanded before bringing them home. He lets me do it for $5, instead of $10, as 10 would be prohibitive. My dogs love him and his team of three...They even help me get these monsters up to the basin....So, I'm inclined to be generous when I can. Also, when I use the self help bath he lets me do two for the price of one. (I have 6 hounds)

Look, when you are at a hairdressers YOU are getting you haircut and YOU tip, its not like a dog can tip the groomers...

This isn't really an answer, but I have to say THANK YOU for saying something. I never really thought about it before reading your post. Of course it costs me $12 to get my hair cut and $48 for my Scottie, so perhaps that's why.

I tip my dog groomer. I have a feeling the non-dog groom tippers probably stiff their hair dressers, too. Cheap so and SOs.

You NEVER tip the owner of a business! it is an insult. If you get your hair done by the owner of a salon you would NOT tip them but you would tip an employee because they usually work for their tips. So if you own your own business you should not be looking for tips!
