Why do people get depressed after a large purchase?

I noticed that some people, myself included, get kind of depressed or melancholy directly after a large purchase.

I think it's that whole idea of "buyer's remorse." Basically, you just spent a lot of money and you are probably worried that you made the wrong decision or spent your money unwisely. I think it is a GOOD thing actually. If you didn't have this, then you are probably the kind of person who spends a lot of money without thinking about whether you can cover it. Either that or you are rich. :)

I think it stems from the fact that the object purchased cannot in of itself make us happy even though we may have been happy when we bought it. It is kind of a let down to see that we still are not as blissfully happy as we imagined ourselves being after we bought what we wanted.

I don't, I feel better after a large purchase, it puts a spring in my step, especially when it's HIS money I'm after spending lol

Probably because you spent money that you could not afford to spend,
