My computer is blocking pages- what do I do? Help!?
So, say I want to log in to Yahoo! Mail to check my email. I type in my username and password and click "Sign In"
A popup window comes up-
"You are about to view pages over a secure connection.
Any information you exchange with this site cannot be viewed by anyone else on the web."
There's a check box for "In the future do not show this warning" and two button options: OK and MORE INFO.
So, I click OK. The page that comes up is "Page cannot be displayed"
And this happens with any secure page.
Also, I can't sign in to any instant messengers, most probably because of this problem.
I've tried to remove the cause of this problem with Spyware Doctor, but that hasn't helped.
And please, no bogus answers.
Thanks in advance!!
This isn't a company computer.
It's a DELL WINDOWS XP.
HOME EDITION.
I have Spyware Doctor installed, but besides that... I'll try deleting it, and see if it helps. Thanks.
Any other ideas?

Figuring out why your computer can't get into secure sites is a tough one, but when it goes so far as to keeping you from logging in to messaging programs, it's a dilly of a pickle. Here are some steps to take:
(1) Visit http://www.windowsupdate.com/ (if possible, sometimes this sort of problem takes away this option) and make sure you have the latest and greatest. Keep going back until it says you have no new critical updates.
(2) Try another browser. http://www.mozilla.com/ is where you can get Firefox. Again, if you can't log into messaging programs, this might not work either, but it's good to have a backup browser anyway.
(3) Check your date and time, including year and time zone. Simple, yet it can cause this problem.
(4) Disable ALL security programs. Firewalls, pop-up blockers, browser toolbars, anti-virus.... This includes router firewalls---If you're going through a router, bypass it. Keep them disabled for the duration of your troubleshooting.
(5) Go to Start>Control Panel>Internet Options. Clear the cookies, Clear the files, including "Offline" files. Go to the security tab, click on "default." Go to the privacy tab, click on "default." Go to the connection tab, click on LAN settings, make sure there's no proxy (unless your ISP demands it to work---write it down if there's something there and removing it makes your internet stop working). Go to the advanced tab, click on "restore defaults." Click Apply, Click OK. Try it again. No dice? Go back to Tools>internet options>advanced and scroll down to "allow third party browser extensions. Uncheck it. Apply>OK, try again. If that doesn't work, go back in and re-enable third party browser extensions. Apply>OK.
6. Click on Start>Run and enter "CMD." In the black box, type in "netsh winsock reset catalog" When prompted, restart your computer. Try again.
7. Try a second, and even third spyware removal tool. The Yahoo toolbar uses Pest Patrol which is pretty good. You can get Spybot S&D and Ad-Aware at http://www.download.com/
8. Do a System Restore. Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore. Go back to a date where you know it worked.
9. Nothing left that I can think of besides repairing or reinstalling XP. If you've gotten this far, either you have/had a wicked piece of spyware that attached itself pretty good to something in your registry, or something just got corrupt in Windows.
I don't think I've left anything out. Best of luck to you!

You can not just uninstall it. Its a virus and it will reinfect your computer. Do what the previous posts suggest but i will add this. Update the definitions on them and reboot the computer. Hit F12 as it boots up to get a boot menu and go into safe mode then scan your computer with the antivirus and malware scanner. Safe mode disabled internet so you have less of a chance to get reinfected. If all else fails you will need to get the original operating system disks that came with your computer and wipe it back to factory.

Try clearing cookies and cache (just always a good idea!)
Check your browser's privacy and security settings, I'd recommend setting them to default) Maybe clear your SSL state (I don't know if that would do anything but meh can't hurt). What kind of online security are you using? (Anti-virus, firewalls, etc) Try disabling it temporarily and seeing if the problem persists. If that fixes it, I would contact the manufacturer of your Security software. If not, call Microsoft. Good luck!

I think you are using your companies computer. They have firewall that block web base email and instant messaging.

Run a full virus scan, Run scan disk, run defrag, delete all temp files and run defrag again.
