By your description this God doesn't sound like much of a judge at all. In fact, it doesn't even seem to me like he knows anything about love. The god you just described sounds like a snob.

a very good poet wrote something beautiful that went a little like this - if you could only love me when i was perfect, why did you make me with flaws? after all, you made me, shaped who i could and could not be. if there's a flaw in me, i can't help it, you put it there.

while i believe in taking responsibility for your actions, even if they are the result of a flaw put there by this god of yours, I also believe in learning. If that god you described loved his children, he would have found another way to punish them. if he knows everything, he would know that children, especially when they live in naive blissful world without fear, need to learn about not trusting strangers, and about thinking things through.

if i take you at your word, i have to believe your god did the equivalent of throwing your 4-year-old out of the house for looking at a dirty magazine he tripped over.

as for jesus. he was agreat man, who did great things. i think the church does him a great disservice every day. after all, if you believe he came all this way to be one of mankind, why do you insist on undermining that by forever separating him from all the human characteristics he wanted to take on. if he is god, what he did wasn't much of an accomplishment. if he was just a carpenter's son, perhaps even married and with a child of his own, then his sacrifice becomes huge, he becomes extraordinary in a way that only humans can be extraordinary. he becomes someone who tells us we can transcend our limits and do the right thing against all odds, however weak we think we are. That's what he did. YOU receive THAT.

Jesus showed men of that time a way of living life in a moral and socially acceptable way outside of Roman doctrine.
