How do you feel when people purchase import over domestic automobile?

Because it seems to be a fact that the domestic auto makers can not play catch up they must play leappfrog toward the import auto makers.

My wife's import is a Suzuki Vitara made in Canada. Mine is a Honda VTX motorcycle made in Marysville Ohio.

    You never know anymore dood.

    GM owns Volvo interests

    Chyrsler owns Mercedes interests

I feel numb but also feel sad to see that we just can't keep up and the europeans and Japanese have us beat off hands down

Don't blame it entirely on the unions. Blame it on CEO salaries.

American automakers bought into the SUV craze, this was a mistake in Principal and they were caught with their pants down, just like 30 years before when everyone was making muscle cars and the gas crunch hit, now theres a new crunch and the SUV is up on the chopping block. American automakers should stick to what they do best, making big beefy AMERICAN cars, with V8s and rear wheel drive. Look at the American cars out there that are doing well, they have these characteristics. Let the imports do their thing and we can do ours, the day will come when the gas will go back down, and then style will win out over a few extra miles to the gallon. After all who ever heard of a Honda corvette??

Many imports are made in America, Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, and several others. Or how about buying a Ford built in Mexico?

I feel like the two Japanese makers build better cars right now. I do hope that changes.

Domestic cars are just as good as anything import. So the whole idea that imports are better is false. But it is a free country and people are free to choose. My choice is domestic.

People want to spend their money on a quality car.. They dont really care where it comes from, as long as it works. US cars are notorious for their unreliability and boring designs.

When domestic car makers develop cars that are reliable and well designed, people will buy them.

But until then, imports will continue to be top dog.

I don't feel anything. That's the purchaser's choice. When he/she find him/herself out of a job because everyone who used to buy the product that he/she is building are buying from overseas perhaps then the irony of the whole thing will hit him/her. For myself I have three cars built in Michigan and one built in Ontario. You won't find anything Japanese, Korean or Chinese in this driveway. Oh, and bconehead should know that Ford owns Volvo and Daimler-Benz owns Chrysler. Ford also owns Land Rover, Jaguar, Aston Martin and Mazda.

I was expecting an import impact on the North American industry to create a more competative movement but the american manufacturers just rolled over. It should have been a good thing, but left no impact except for those who lost their jobs through downsizing,

  • It makes me sad that American cars suck, because if they didn't I would have bought one instead of a Honda, which in my case isn't exactly an import since it's built in the U.S., but it was designed by a Japanese company that knows how to design cars that last.

a lot of the imports are actually made domestically anymore. So it's really nothing more than a name.

I think "wow, why can't we make better automobiles?" Why should American be forced to buy inferior products just because they are made by American companies? Why not increase the quality of American products?
