Are Pro-Lifers against IVF?

Let me explain... many Pro-Lifers argue that life starts at conception, not implantation. Well, IVF involves the process of fertilising eggs with sperm (conception) outside of the body then putting the result in the woman. Many embryos are created for this purpose. Ones that are not used are commonly for frozen for up to 5 years before being destroyed.

I see Pro-Lifers protesting about "children" being aborted but never do I see ones protesting about the ones "killed" in IVF clinics.

What are everyone's thoughts and feelings on this?

Update:

Thanks to the Pro-Lifers for at least being consistent in their views and them being about the life rather than the woman.

This is a tough one for me to pick a best answer for so I will put it to a vote.

I am pro life and i do not object to IVF. It took me 8 years to have my wonderful baby but so worth it.

I personally chose not to do IVF because if there had been 10 embryos i would have wanted every single one. One of my very close friends had IVF and she has two beautiful twin girls. Do what your heart tells you. God will take care of you and those sweet babies.

I agree! I am pro-life, am NOT against IVF, but I AM against destroying these poor little embryos left behind in these fertility clinics. The thing I learned in one of my philosophy classes is that these embroyos left behind (the ones in which the parents sign a paper, waiving all rights to their no-longer-needed embryos) are often the ones used for stem-cell research.

I am prolife.I DO NOT OBJECT TO IVF,however I strongly object to frozen embryos being destroyed.Life does start at conception. As you know IVF is quite expensive and I believe that all extra embryos should be donated to other infertile couples.

I totally agree with both responses. I do not agree with abortion. I do agree with IVF. There are so many couple who would love to conceive. It is a shame that professionals and politicians would rather destroy an embryo than spend a little bit more money, that they definitely have, to help other couples with fertility.

  • I am pro-choice. I do like the addition of IVF into the argument. I had never thought about that before.

in case you mean in vitro fertilization then i'm against it. IVF creates extra embryos than are ever used. those embryos are often kept for a time, then destroyed. i'm also probable the purely Republican against the death penalty.

I am an old fashion physician, and are very much pro-life. It is my impression that life begins at conception, thus destruction of embryos is equivalent to abortion.

I am pro-life and totally against anything else that hurts or kills babies.
